Support
Support workers are available during working hours Monday to Friday with an on-call worker available after hours for essential contact.
Case management support is provided to assist women and their children to meet their immediate support needs, and to identify and achieve goals. Support provided may include:
  • Crisis counselling
  • Safety planning
  • General assistance, support and advocacy
  • Establishing community links
  • Assistance in securing independent accommodation. 

Women are supported in a way that respects their rights, privacy and confidentiality. Cultural background, sexuality, religion, disability and personal circumstances are respected and taken into account.


Eligibility Criteria
Women or women with accompanying children who have no home to go to or who are escaping domestic violence.
Able to self care including meal preparation and housework (or have access to a support package funded to provide this).


Accommodation

Single Women’s House
This is a furnished house accommodating up to five women. Each women has her own room; linen is provided and the common facilities are shared including a fully equipped kitchen. Food and general groceries are provided as part of the board and lodging fees.
Fees are income assessed.

Family House
The family house provides accommodation for women with accompanying children. This fully furnished and equipped house provides accommodation for one family at a time. Women are required to be fully responsible for children in their care at all times. Rent is income assessed and charged as per the Community Rent Calculator. Families are responsible for their own food and grocery requirements.
Visitors and Safety
Lowanna provides a “safe house” for single women and women accompanied for children. Confidentiality of the address is critical to ensure the safety of current and future residents. Strictly no visitors or disclosure of the address is permitted.

Curfew
All residents are required to be in the house by 10 p.m. at night.

Alcohol and Other Drugs
The possession or use of alcohol, illicit drugs/substances and or drug/substance paraphernalia is not permitted on any part of Lowanna House properties. Women are not permitted to return to Lowanna House if under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs. 


Lowanna House is a not-for profit community organisations funded by the Department of Housing and Public Works under the Specialist Homelessness Program.
